Physicians Insurance was formed to provide medical professional liability insurance to physicians around the country. Physicians Insurance is owned by its policyholders; however, they are 95% reinsured by Physicians Insurance A Mutual Company (Physicians Insurance).

Physicians Insurance, which is headquartered in Seattle, was founded in 1981 by physicians and is recognized as a leading medical professional liability insurer. They have an A- (Excellent) rating by A.M. Best Company and over $460 million in total assets, making it become the largest physician-owned mutual company based in the Northwest.
